Ahoy Mates! MySpace Joins With Disney for New Online Promotion.

The latest infiltration of MySpace has the online community conglomerate partnering with Walt Disney Pictures to promote the summer release of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.” According to a recent MarketingVOX article, MySpace will choose a “friend” of the movie’s profile and provide them with access to exclusive trailers and movie clips; of those randomly chosen, one will win the ultimate prize—a trip to Los Angeles to represent the film’s MySpace account during the press junket promotion.

In recent weeks MySpace has been under fire for providing a venue for sexual predators and a means for communicating intents of school violence. The recent film partnership is an attempt to create more profitable revenue for MySpace who, compared to more established Web sites such as Yahoo and Google. MySpace membership is over 70 million and growing and the “Pirates” page currently boasts 41,000 friends.
